JEE Main Rank Predictor 2025
JEE Main 2025 Percentile Predictor
What is JEE Main Percentile?
JEE Main Percentile is a statistical measure used to indicate a student’s relative performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main compared to other candidates. It shows the percentage of students who scored lower than a particular candidate in the exam. For example, if a candidate has a percentile of 90, it means they have scored better than 90% of the candidates.
Why is Percentile Considered for Admission to Engineering Colleges?
The percentile is used instead of raw scores for JEE Main because of its ability to normalize performance across multiple exam shifts. Since the JEE Main exam is held in multiple sessions, the difficulty level of each session may vary. Percentile scores eliminate this discrepancy by comparing a candidate’s performance to others who appeared in the same session. This makes the percentile a fairer metric for all candidates.
Difference Between Percentile and Percentage ( Percentile Vs Percentage)
Aspect | Percentile | Percentage |
---|---|---|
Meaning | Represents the relative rank of a candidate in comparison to others. It shows how many candidates scored below the given candidate. | Represents the absolute score or marks obtained out of the total marks possible in an exam. |
Scale | Range from 0 to 100. A higher percentile means better performance relative to others. | Range from 0% to 100%, depending on the number of correct answers or marks obtained. |
Calculation | Percentile is calculated based on the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam. | Percentage is calculated by dividing the obtained marks by the total marks and multiplying by 100. |
Normalization | Takes into account the difficulty of different exam sessions. | Doesn’t account for session-to-session variation. |
Use | Used in competitive exams to determine a candidate’s relative performance. | Used to show the proportion of marks obtained in any exam. |
